Fresh off the franchise’s first NBA Finals appearance in more than a decade, it’s a big season in Boston for franchise players Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown.

As a franchise player on the last Celtics team that made the Finals, and the last Cs team that won a championship, Paul Pierce knows all about that pressure, and the Truth believes Tatum and Brown are built to return to the championship round and finish the job the way Paul and his teammates did the last time Boston won a title back in 2008.

Speaking on NBC Sports Boston’s pregame show, alongside other members of that team Brian Scalabrine and Eddie House, The Truth said it’s up to Tatum and Brown to use that experience last year to rally them to get it done.

“It’s important to understand what they went through and use that to feed them and feed off of that,” he said. “There’s never a guarantee that you’ll get back there, but they’re young, they’re talented and if they stay healthy, have the right mindset and understand what it took for them to get there, they’ll get there again.”

While joining the show, Paul was also asked by host Amina Smith about the legacy left behind by the recently departed Bill Russell, an 11-time champion with the Celtics who the team will be honoring all season long. Paul told stories of the time he got to spend with Russell and noted that his legacy and impact on the Boston organization is unmatched.

“The time he played in, for the Boston Celtics, he was a pioneer,” Paul said. “He laid the foundation to what the Celtics as an organization are today.”
