Before both men headed out to Cleveland to participate in NBA All-Star Weekend, as members of the NBA 75 Team, Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett sat down at Taisho restaurant in Los Angeles for some fine dining and discussion of the NBA’s annual All-Star festivities and where things stand across the league for KG’s Showtime series Certified.

After they got over KG’s distaste for saké, the dynamic duo got down to the business at hand, and first up was analyzing the formation of another dynamic duo, in Philly with Joel Embiid and James Harden. KG compared the tandem to Shaq and Kobe but The Truth wasn’t feeling all that.

“I don’t know about that,” he said. “This is my thing, James has been teamed up with who already? Dwight Howard, Westbrook, Kevin Durant, and it’s been the same results…when shit don’t go right with Harden, he shuts down. We’ve seen that…now he ain’t played for nobody like Doc and I’m going to give him that. I’m not going to put money on them. I think second round for them.”

Instead, Paul says he’d put his money on Chicago coming out of the East if they stay healthy and in the West he doesn’t think anybody has anything for the Phoenix Suns. A 1993 NBA Finals rematch? Sign us up.

The two then turned their attention to the All-Star festivities, and breaking down the teams. Both agreed Team LeBron would probably win, but with LaMelo Ball and Ja Morant among others, Team Durant might be more fun to watch.

As for the other All-Star weekend competitions, Paul isn’t high on this year’s dunk contest but the 2010 Three-Point Contest winner does have a pick for that competition.

“I’ve gotta go with Patty Mills. I like his release. He reminds me of Craig Hodges,” The Truth said. “The rest of them they can shoot buy they’re streaky. I think Patty Mills is more consistent…I’m a three-point champions so I’ve got some say in all this. Y’all better recognize that. I can speak on it. I’ve got one of them in the trophy case.”

Both KG and Truth agreed that they’re most excited to be a part of the NBA 75 celebration, and surrounded by other legends of the game.

“It hasn’t hit me yet,” he said. “I don’t think it’s going to hit me until I put that jacket on. It’s going to hit me when I’m around all the other cats. When I see Shaq, AI and all them out there. You never think about that stuff when you’re on the goal to make it to the league. You’re like ‘Yeah, I want to be one of the greatest.’ But you don’t know. You just work hard and see where you land.”
