Paul Pierce rode alongside television personality Cari Champion as she Ubered him around and got to know The Truth better.

Champion’s first question was on how Pierce got the nickname, “The Truth.”

“Everybody know that I dropped 40 on Kobe and Shaq. After the game Shaq was like ‘Paul Pierce, he’s the truth.’”

Pierce also said that after that it made its way over to Boston through numerous newspapers and publications referring to him as “The Truth.”

Champion asked Pierce to rate off the court experiences out of 5 stars (similarly to how you rate your Uber drivers). Here are a couple of Pierce’s ratings:

On turning 40: Pierce – “40 is the new 25.”

On Doc Rivers: 5 stars. Pierce – “We won a championship together.”

On Doc Rivers in L.A.: 3 stars

Champion mentions that Pierce is from Los Angeles, but played professionally in Boston. NBA fans around the world know that the Lakers and the Celtics have had one of the greatest rivalries in all of sports. Pierce, however, was thrilled to be a part of it.

“I was just happy I could be a part of the rivalry. The rivalry was what got me into basketball. Growing up an L.A. Laker fan, I get drafted by Boston and I’m like oh man what is this?” Pierce said. “Out of all the teams in the NBA, the Boston Celtics. Once I started learning about the history I was like ‘this is what’s up’ they have a lot of tradition.’”
