Truth’s Fear of AI Switch; NBA Draft Decision Time

What could possibly strike fear into the competitive heart of Paul Pierce, NBA Champion, nicknamed The Truth by Shaquille O’Neal?

How about a switch that put him one-on-one with The Answer?

In discussing AI becoming the shortest player ever to win the NBA’s Most Valuable Player, Rachel Nichols got Paul to reveal how much he dreaded every time he was tasked with taking Allen Iverson one-on-one.

“I’m not even gonna lie to you, Rach. I didn’t match up with him, but I knew I was in situations in pick and roll where I switched out on him, and I’m not gonna lie, I was scared to death, because I could play defense and all, but I knew I couldn’t slide my feet with Allen Iverson. Every night when you looked up at the SportsCenter highlights, he was crossing somebody, he was putting somebody in the mix. So all I knew was when I switched on him, I was going to give him that olĂ© defense, let him do his move, and let him go. Hopefully I could send him to the baseline because I was not trying to slide my feet with that guy.”

That revelation brought much joy to Rachel and Tracy McGrady, but T-Mac had plenty of experience guarding AI too and discussed how he’s never been more tired than nights he had to chase Iverson around.

The trio also discussed recent changes to the NBA Draft’s withdrawal date, which seemed like a no-brainer given that the entire NBA calendar is about to slide. Paul noted that with so much uncertainty, we’re going to see even more players flocking to the league “early.” At least, that’s what he’d do.

“I’m just going to take my chances with the draft, wait, workout, possibly try to gather up some endorsements in the process. Just try to find a way to where I can make a little bit of money,” Paul said. “There’s no sports on both sides [NCAA and Pro] coming back any time soon, especially NCAA sports. Who is to say they’re even going to have a season?”
