Paul Pierce Remains the Rockbed of Celtics
by The Paul Pierce Team

While the Celtics have struggled Paul Pierce's play remains stellar.

The Boston Examiner pointed out Tuesday Paul’s tremendous loyalty to the Boston Celtics, and how truly consistent he has been in his career with the team. And the truth is, they’re right. Without Paul Pierce, the Celtics very likely would have lost their last five games in a row. During that span, Paul is the only Celtics starter who has been able to score at the level of their season average, continuing to drop 20 points a game on his opponents each night.

With none of his Celtic teammates able to score more than eleven points Sunday night against the Minnesota Timberwolves, Paul Pierce’s 23 points were vital to Boston’s 85-82 victory. With Minnesota battling back from an early deficit, Paul flipped the switch and took over the game when the Celtics needed him most.

He began by getting himself to the foul line, where after knocking down two free throws Paul gave the Celtics a two point lead. After Minnesota scored four consecutive points to take their first lead of the game, it appeared the Celtics’ opponents had all the momentum and would be able to close out the game, but not with Paul Pierce on the other end. Paul responded back with a huge three-pointer to give Boston back the lead.

Both teams were hitting big shots and the game would come down to who could match the other team’s scoring down the stretch. Thankfully for the Celtics, Paul Pierce is one of the best in the world in the clutch scoring department, and he showed why again on Sunday night. Paul turned around and responded with an and-one three-point play that would give the Celtics the lead for good.

For good measure, Paul would add another four points to keep the Wolves at bay and ensure a four point victory for Boston. Despite his great individual performance to help earn Boston the win, Paul had nothing to say about himself, only the team.

"They made us sweat," Pierce said. "We were up 20. I'm just happy we got the win."

As one can see when looking back at Paul Pierce’s career, it has always been about the team first. Just as he stayed loyal to Boston for over a decade through the franchise's ups and downs, it is clear that Paul sees himself as a teammate first.
