Lift-Off in Houston
by Andrew Mees

The Houston Rockets are sporting their own version of the Big Three, but the Truth and his teammates proved they could be imitated, but never duplicated.

Number 34 went for 13 points and nine boards as the Celtics downed the high-flying Houston Rockets, 103-99, Tuesday night in Houston.

The Cs burst out to a 28-22 advantage at the end of the first quarter behind four points and an assist from their team captain. It was a lead they would never relinquish, and Pierce and his teammates showed why they are one of the premier defensive teams in the league as they shut down the Rockets’ offensive weapons Ron Artest, Tracy McGrady and Yao Ming.

THE TRUTH ON THE ELECTION
With the election taking place tonight, Number 34 stated who he’d be voting for in an interview with Boston Common Magazine.
“I’m going to vote for Obama. I think it would be great to see the first black president. I’m not voting for him only because of that, but because I feel the change that he could bring as a Democratic president would be more influential that what the Republicans bring,” Pierce said.
Voting is just one of the many ways The Truth lives up to his status as a role model. He offered up his thoughts on the message he wants to bring to kids his charities help every day:
“I say kids have to educate themselves on the reality of life. The chance of me becoming an NBA player was one in a million so I will never tell a kid what he can’t do. I tell them, if that’s what you want and you follow it hard enough, you have an opportunity to do it, but you have to have a Plan A, a Plan B and a Plan C.”
When asked about retirement, Pierce maintained that Boston would always be his home.
“My life is Boston. I feel like I might open up some restaurants, maybe a sports bar or a car dealership. None of the other greats have done that. They won here, but none left a legacy,” he said.
NEXT UP
The Truth and the rest of the Celtics travel to Oklahoma for their first ever matchup against Kevin Durant and the Oklahoma City Thunder Wednesday night.
