Play Words With Friends With Paul For Charity!
The Paul Pierce Team
If you follow Paul Pierce and the Boston Celtics, then you know how committed they are to the people of Boston. Paul and his teammates carve out as much time as they can to help their communities, and this week, Paul partnered with Zynga, the creators of Words With Friends, to help raise money for the Truth Fund, and you can help!
Earlier this week, Zynga announced the Words With Friends Celebrity Challenge, which pits actors, musicians (and one very popular Boston Celtic) against each other in a Words With Friends Tournament for charity. The winning celebrity will win $500,000 for its charity.
The brackets have been set, and Paul is facing the actor Edward Norton in the first round on Friday. Paul, who spoke with ESPN just before the brackets were announced, is ready to take on all comers, and he is especially excited to take on the Oscar winner. "I heard Ed Norton was a Celtics fan growing up, so I want to show him how it's done."
In and of itself, the Celebrity Challenge is a great way to raise money for a worthy cause, but there's a wrinkle to the contest that makes it more interesting. If you join Paul's team on Every Word Counts, Zynga's homepage for the tournament, you can raise points for Paul's team. Plus, everybody who joins Paul's team will be eligible to play against Paul after the tournament is over!
Of course, the point of this whole activity is to raise money for a good cause, and Paul wants to help as many people as possible participate. If you're not much of a Words With Friends player, you can still get involved! From now until October 3, Paul will be raising money through this Crowdrise page. Every donation goes toward helping children and families become more physically active and move toward healthier lifestyles, a great cause that Paul has championed for the past ten years through the Truth Fund. However, anyone who donates at least $34 will be eligible to win a basketball signed by Paul himself!
Further details about donations and the fundraiser itself can be found at Zynga's Every Word Counts page. Check out the contest, join Paul's team, and remember to stay active and healthy this fall!
