There isn’t a NBA player more synonymous with Paul Pierce than Kevin Garnett, so when KG launched his new show for Showtime, KG Certified it was an alley-oop who his first guest would be, his former, and once again with Showtime Basketball, teammate The Truth.

In KG Certified’s debut episode, Paul and Kevin talked about the latest happenings around the league, starting with the return of Klay Thompson, to solidify the Golden State Warriors and, according to The Truth, make them once again the team to beat in the West.

“To be off for two years and come back and be solid, just think when he gets 20 games under him. You already see the Warriors, without him, and then you add that, that’s like bringing in a new free agent to a team that was already balling. They’re going to be scary. I don’t see [anybody] in the West beating them in seven games. That’s gonna be tough.”

That led Paul and KG to talk about some other teams in the West and the one that jumped off the page for both, was the Memphis Grizzlies, led by MVP candidate Ja Morant. Truth recounted a recent conversation with a friend, who claimed Morant has already passed Dallas’ Luka Doncic in the NBA’s hierarchy.

As a self-professed Doncic fan, that was a tough one for Paul to swallow. But eventually, The Truth admitted, if he was starting a NBA team right now, he’d have to take Morant over Doncic.

“Luka’s already got playoff wins. He’s already First Team All NBA,” Paul said. “But Ja Morant’s style of play and what he brings is a lot…Luka’s got better stats, but I just like the way Ja plays because he puts so much pressure on the defense to where he’s all downhill. And the speed he brings to the game, his defensive ability…I gotta go with that boy in Memphis right now. He’s a dog. He reminds me of a cross between Allen Iverson and Derrick Rose.”

Paul and KG then moved on to talk about the slew of 10-day contracts being awarded to vets, including their former Nets teammate Joe Johnson, as Truth lamented not being in game shape to give it one more go.

“I can still hit a corner three, all day long. Any three. Spot it up. But I ain’t got nothing for you on the defense. They’re going to switch switch switch,” he said. “I don’t want to get caught in the middle of a James Harden, Steph Curry, Kyrie Irving, Ja Morant switch. I don’t want none of that action. At 44, my mind says one thing but the body is gonna say something else.”

Watch Truth and KG chop it up about those topics, plus what’s gone wrong with Anthony Davis and the Lakers, Zion Williamson’s future, Jayson Tatum and the Celtics, Kyrie Irving’s return to Brooklyn for road games early, the surging Utah Jazz, the struggling Atlanta Hawks, the Cleveland Cavaliers, who Paul says may be the most surprising team in the NBA right now, the East’s top seed, the Chicago Bulls, and a heated argument over who would win 1-on-1 between KD and Giannis.
