It’s an age-old conversation – who are you starting with if you can build an NBA team from scratch right now.

At different times over the last decade it has been a number of different guys. LeBron, of course. Anthony Davis, perhaps. Giannis, without a doubt. But now? There’s only one guy young enough and skilled enough, and it’s Luka Doncic.

In a recent survey of NBA scouts, coaches and front office members, 17-of-20 picked Luka over the likes of Zion Williamson, Trae Young and Ja Morant. This naturally left Paul Pierce to wonder, what were the other three guys watching?

“No disrespect to the other guys, how did he only get 17 votes? If you’re starting a team today, based on what he’s done, based on what these other guys have done, that should be a unanimous decision. I’ve got a feeling those other three votes came from those other teams’ organizations.”

Watch Paul argue Luka’s credentials much to the delight of Kendrick Perkins and Rachel Nichols below, and watch The Jump weekdays at 3 p.m. ET on ESPN.
