After shutting down Nikola Jokic in a win over the Denver Nuggets, Anthony Davis looks to be a front-runner for the NBA’s Defensive Player of the Year award. His stiffest competition is likely Giannis Antetokounmpo, another long, athletic, versatile defender who can guard multiple positions.

While Davis has certainly made his case, Paul Pierce would give the edge to the Greek Freak because Paul believes Giannis has a slight edge in versatility on the defensive end, saying that he could do a better job guarding point guards than Davis could.

“There is someone like (Davis). His name is the Greek Freak, who can defend all five positions, all night. I think Anthony Davis can defend four positions,” Pierce said. “(Davis) is going to be in the running for Defensive Player of the Year, but if you say ‘Anthony Davis, I need you to guard the point guard all night,’ I don’t know if he can do that. If you say that to the Greek Freak, he can definitely do that.”
