With so many changes since Luke Walton was hired, coupled with the team’s struggles down the stretch of this season, it has become increasingly likely that the Los Angeles Lakers will look to find a new head coach for LeBron James and Co. in advance of next season.

Paul Pierce believes that this situation was almost inevitable because of the typical desire of new management to want to build their own foundation for the team.

“This happens all across the league,” Pierce said. “(New general managers) want to set their own head coaches. They want to build their foundation moving forward. It has nothing to do with Luke (Walton). I think the only thing that would have saved Luke after this year is if they had won a championship, but that was unrealistic.”
