Paul Pierce and Tony Allen were teammates from 2004-2010 where they captured their first NBA Championship together in 2008. Back in ’04, when Allen came in as a rookie, Pierce decided he would take a look at a former Big 12 player. Hailing from Kansas, Pierce felt a connection right off the bat with the former Oklahoma State guard. He was amazed at what he saw; high flying dunks, stout defense and an all-around game that could make him a superstar in this league.

Mind you, this is the summer league. These are for G-Leaguers and rookies to hone their craft.

Pierce decided to make a little bet with the rookie.

“If you make the All-Rookie game you can have this watch.”

Allen did not even receive his first game check, yet he was out there playing for Pierce’s 30K watch to prove to an All-Time Great that he has the desire to be a force in the league.

Pierce was honest:

“I didn’t think he would make it.”

“There is a reason why he was first team all-[defense], he had to guard me everyday mentally and physically.”

“Defense wins championships” and Allen was on the All-Defensive team six times in his career. They captured a ring together and they will forever be brothers.
