Paul Pierce joined ESPN’s NBA Countdown to discuss the challenges behind guarding LeBron James.

Pierce said that his strategy on guarding LeBron was eliminating LeBron’s easy opportunities and then going from there. Pierce said taking away LeBron’s lanes at layups makes it easier to guard him.

“You limit those points and you force him to take contested 2-point shots, you have your chance to guard him.” Pierce said. “But, he knows how to make those shots too.”

Pierce also touched on his favorite personal battle against LeBron. It came back in the second round of the 2008 Playoffs in Game 7.

“I couldn’t stop him, he couldn’t stop me.” Pierce said. “We’ve had a lot of good battles but that was my favorite.”
